Involvement of member groups

 

NCDA aims to involve the community of Newhaven through engaging its member groups and the wider community of Newhaven in the regeneration of the town and activities to develop and promote community involvement and pride.


Achievements in 2006/2007:An image of a fish festival

  • 5 regular forums held focusing on current issues for Newhaven and 140 representatives attended
  • Public consultations: 1 event held in 2006/7
  • 90 local voluntary and community organisations were members of NCDA and involved in NCDA activities
  • The NCDA website went live on 5th April 2006
  • Representation of NCDA member groups at Lewes District Community Network
  • Active involvement in six-monthly meetings of the Clean Streets Newhaven project linking to member groups and NCDA projects
  • Newhaven and Seaford Maritime Festival held 6th May - 31st July coordinated by NCDA
  • Fish Festival coordinated on 27th May celebrating the town's fishing industry and maritime heritage attended by approximately 15,000 people
  • Mini Youth Festival held at West Quay on 1st July 2006 celebrating the unveiling of sculpture designed by a local young person on the site of the old War Memorial, Fort Road
  • Youth Shelter opening event held at Fort Road Recreation Ground 18th July 2006
  • Fete de Newhaven held 2nd September 2006 in the town's High Street involving a wide range of local voluntary groups celebrating community activity with the Dieppe Market attracting a large attendance
  • Stay Safe with Santa family safety day held 6th December 2006 at Denton Island Children and Family Centre - approximately 200 people attended
  • Christmas shopping event at Newhaven Fort on 16th December 2006 involving a large number of community groups and the Dieppe Market
  • Smarter Living Day offering advise on debt, healthy eating, energy saving etc held 31st March 2007 at Denton Island Children and Family Centre - approximately 50 people attended
