Denton Island Children and Family Centre
 

Children & Family CentreDenton Island Children and Family Centre and Denton Island Nursery aim to:

  • Develop activities and manage the Denton Island Children and Family Centre as the designated Children's Centre for Newhaven
  • Provide high quality full day care in a 60-place full day care nursery meeting the needs of the local community and the aims of the Neighbourhood Nursery Initiative and Children's Centres

In it's first year the Denton Island Children and Family Centre succeeded in:

  • Securing additional trust funding to complete the furnishing and equipment of the building
  • Denton Island Nursery opened on 5th July 2004 with full Ofsted registration and 26 children registered
  • Nursery open 50 weeks per year - 8am to 6pm
  • 13 members of staff recruited and inducted and qualified teacher support recruited
  • 59 children registered by end of March 2005 for a range of sessions including full day care and short term sessions
  • Denton Island Children and Family Centre opened in August 2004  
  • Designation as the Children's Centre for Newhaven by the Department for Education and Science was achieved in December 2004 as the first Children's Centre in East Sussex
  • Agreement reached with Sussex Downs and Weald PCT that all Health Visitor, Midwifery and Paediatric nurse appointments be offered through the Children and Family Centre
  • Centre developing a range of activities to meet the needs of children under 5 and their families in Newhaven and address the Children's Centre core offer of services 7 days a week
