COUNSELLING SERVICES AT SUMMERHAYES
Since April 2006 Summerhayes has been offering a range of different counselling services, linked to an Introductory Meeting.
  • Referrals into the Counselling Services can be from Doctors, Counsellors at a Surgery, the Community Mental Health Team, the Options service, or other Primary Care services
  • When Summerhayes receive a referral from one of the above, a letter will be sent out from Summerhayes inviting the referred person to book an Introductory Meeting at Summerhayes
  • At this Introductory Meeting there will be a chance to ask questions find out more about Counselling and the different Counselling Service that Summerhayes offers
  • As a result of the Introductory Meeting we will think together about the different services and work out which would be the most helpful
  • We will also be able to give a good idea of any waiting list times and think about any other ideas or services that might be helpful
  • As a result of the Introductory Meeting, and as soon as a suitable Summerhayes Counsellor has a space, an appointment for counselling will be offered
  • Generally up to 6 sessions will be offered initially; and this may sometimes be extended to 12 sessions by discussion and agreement between Client and Counsellor, with occasional further extensions by arrangement

We aim to have the following services available at Summerhayes, although at times there may be some variation in some services as students qualify and we await the next intake.

Student Counselling (See leaflet on Counselling)
The Student Counselling service is offered by trainee counsellors from local colleges and universities. As part of their training the students do a counselling placement. Because the students are in training, the service can be offered at a lower cost.

Prices start at £6 per session (unwaged/low income)

and go up to £12 per session (waged)

Low Cost Qualified Counselling (See leaflet on Counselling)
The Low Cost Counselling Service is offered by Counsellors who are already qualified. They offer their services at a lower rate than the average charge for a qualified Counsellor.

Prices start at £12 per session (unwaged/low income)

and go up to £24 per session (waged)

Qualified Cognitive Therapy (See leaflet on Cognitive Therapy)
The qualified cognitive therapy service is available at a cost of £20 to £40 per session.
